Making Comics!
Making Comics! is a great new site for anyone interested creating their own making comics. Jason Brubaker, of the webcomic Remind, has started this site recently. He has a ton on contributors adding new content regularly, and co-hosts a podcast along with Daniel Lieske of the webcomic Worm Worlds Saga, that talks with creators about their experiences making comics, etc.

#5.2 2 Page Preview
Didn't quite follow through with what I said in my last post. It may be several weeks late, and not a weekend, I finally got some new artwork posted.
These are the first two pages to #5.2 of Centur Way of the Ninja. The stories happen inbetween #5 and #6 of the comic book series.
I have decided to go with just pencils for the stories as I am fond of the rough textures that are on the page. I do not use blue line pencils whenever I draw. HB lead is my prefered type on lead and I switch from .5 to .7 Staedtler techincal pencil. For the larger shaded areas I use from a B to a 6B pencil.
The first page took me approx 3 hours from start to finish and the second page took approx 4 hours to finish. I had some issues with the last panel on the page which is why took alittle longer. I still have to clean them abit a little, insert the text, and add the panel borders (I may leave the panels bare but I am not sure) but I am quite happy with how they turned out.

Trying something
I haven't done anything new for the last couple weeks, which has been very bother some. I seem to be falling asleep too much, resulting in far less time to draw. With that said I have decided I am going to try drawing after work instead for the next week or so to see how it goes. With me working until the early hours of the night. and still having to get up by 8 to take my kid to school, I figure if I just stay awake until I take him to school I could possibly get 4 hours of drawing in a night and still have 5 to 6 hours of sleep before I have to get ready for work and pick up my kid from school. Since I am normally wired when I get home from work staying up shouldn't be a problem. And if I am tired at work, I know I should pass out when I get home and have a good 4 hours of sleep before getting up and my kid to school. Seems like a no brain er. The wife may not like it too much, but since I have been sleeping throughout the day anyways and I only have a 4 day work week, it won't be too much of a change. Just makes the honey do list longer on the weekends.
Asides from that, I have been rethinking how I would like to print my future books. I am leaning towards getting away from the normal 20 to 22 page length comic and more towards a 48 page comic. I would like to get more of the story out at once plus printing one larger book is cheaper than printing 2 smaller books. Breaking the 48 page book into 2 chapters would give it more of a manga feel to it as well, but also give me the chance to try some short stories with other characters that I have been wanting to do for awhile.
I have a list of conventions that I will be attending in 2012 already lined up or close to it:
Emerald City Comic Con March 30th, 31th and April 1st
Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo April 27th, 28th and 29th
There may be a couple of other shows but as of right now I am not sure. The plan is to have Centuri Way of the Ninja volume 2, as well as several new Paper Toys released for Emerald City. Hopefully all goes good.
Well, that's it for now. No new artwork to show or paper craft, but I should to have some new artwork up this weekend.

Digital Centuri
Playing around in Manga Studio.
Just started sketching away and it turned into a drawing of Centuri. This is the first time I had really used my Wacom Tablet for what is suppose to be used for (normally it is a fancy/expensive mouse pad) and was a lot easier than I thought it would be. This sketch total approx 5 minutes to do. A quick sketch like this is a great way to get the creativity flowing at the start of the day. Looking forward to do doing of these.

Manga Studios and Nice Paper Toys
Found out about a cool site called Nice paper Toys http://www.nicepapertoys.com/
It's looks like a nice community of people that enjoy or create custom paper toys. Seems a little like facebook (from the small amount of facebook I have seen anyways) but for paper toy fans and creators. Definitely digging it so far.
I had heard many good things about it and a ton of artists that I have meet at conventions have been recommending it. I got the Debut edition of it, the cheaper of the two (the other being the EX edition which is the professional edition). I played around with it alittle bit before going in to work yesterday and I found it very user friendly. Using the screen tones was very easy, which is good since it is the main reason I got it. Even though I finished Centuri Way of the Ninja issue 7, the plan is to go back a add a bunch of tones to the pages that should make the finished comic way better. There will probably be an extra page or two added since there is an area or two that I am not all that happy with in the comic.
With it being a long weekend up here in Canada, I plan on getting a lot done when it comes to issue 7 and issue 8 of Centuri Way of the Ninja. When I get some pages done I will post them.

Centuri the Paper Toy
Designed a new Centuri Paper Toy a few weeks ago for the Jet City Comic Show. The first one that I had done was cool but was really lacking when he was beside the Hare paper Toy. Being that Centuri is a main character from my comic i could not have a supporting character up staging him that badly. Below are some pics of the toy as well as the paper template.
If you want to give the toy a go, the tools i had on hand were:
a good metal ruler,
exacto knife,
double sided tape and
elmer's Craft Bond glue.
Have fun.

Comic Moved
k,
well I moved the Centuri way of the ninja comic over to a proper home at http://centuriwotn.smackjeeves.com/
Should have done it from the beginning since blogger is not really the place for a comic online. I will start using this blog instead as a place for updates for Centuri way of the ninja. Posting previews of pages I am working on, upcoming conventions, cool paper crafts, or just sketches.
So for now head on over to http://centuriwotn.smackjeeves.com/ for more Centuri action. Right now, new pages are posted Monday to Friday.
